The «Giardino di Archimede» is a consortium of universities and public institutions established with the aim of founding the first museum of its kind, totally dedicated to mathematics and its applications and to promoting the development of mathematical culture and the study of its history.
The «Giardino di Archimede» addresses one of the main difficulties faced by teachers and researchers of maths history: locating and accessing original material on the subject from centuries past. Even though some authors have been published in more recent editions, to study the work of most it is necessary to refer to the original texts, which can found only in a limited number of libraries.
In an attempt to alleviate this problem, and to contribute to a wider distribution of material on the history and culture of mathematics, the «Giardino di Archimede» has decided to make a series of texts available which academics and students can access online or by acquiring the material on CD Rom.
